Cities in this Quiz
About this quiz
Guess the city from a single photo. 6 attempts. After each guess we return the flat-map distance to the target, a direction arrow, and a proximity color. Easy Mode is the perfect starting point which is welcoming, fair, and still genuinely satisfying to solve.
What Makes Easy Mode Easy
Easy draws from the world’s most recognizable cities like global capitals and major hubs that appear constantly in news, film, and travel media. Think Paris, Tokyo, London, Rome, Sydney, New York, Cairo, and Dubai. These are cities most people could place on a map without hesitation.
The photos give you every reasonable chance:
- Iconic landmarks, straight on. The Eiffel Tower. Big Ben. The Colosseum. If you’ve seen a postcard, you’ll recognize the shot.
- Famous skylines and waterfronts. Distinctive silhouettes that are difficult to mistake for anywhere else.
- Clear cultural context. Signage, flags, monuments, and architecture that point firmly at one place on the planet.
Easy Mode is about the joy of recognition. You should finish most rounds in one or two guesses.
Tips for Easy Mode
- Trust your first instinct. If a landmark looks familiar, it probably is.
- Use the color feedback. Even on Easy, the proximity color helps you confirm a correct guess or course-correct fast.
- Use wrong guesses to explore. Easy Mode is a low-stakes way to learn how the distance and bearing system works before tackling harder difficulties.
- Try to go perfect. Six attempts sounds generous. See how many rounds you can solve in one.
Who Easy Mode Is For
Easy is for newcomers to city guessing games, younger players building their geography knowledge, and anyone who wants a relaxed, low-pressure round before stepping up to Medium or Hard. There is no shame in starting here. Everyone does.
FAQ
How many cities are in Easy Mode? Easy Mode draws from more than 100 cities worldwide, strongly weighted toward globally recognized capitals and major cities that appear frequently in international media.
Do I have to start with Easy before unlocking other modes? No, all difficulties are available from the start. Easy is just the recommended entry point.
How is “close” calculated? Flat-map (equirectangular) distance between your guessed city and the target, measured on a flat rectangular world map, so direction arrows match how the cities are laid out on screen rather than over-the-pole great-circle routes. The proximity color runs from green (under 50 km) to red (over 7,500 km).
How can I know the answers? Answers reveal themselves at the end along with the score and results. The “Cities in this Quiz” section shows every city along with its thumbnail, a Wikipedia link, Google Maps, and links to the landmarks in each photo. A good excuse to fall down a geography rabbit hole.
